Five CSISD campuses named higher-performing

Five College Station Independent School District campuses recently earned the National Center for Educational Accountability’s (NCEA) Higher-Performing School distinction for the 2011 school year.

The following schools earned the distinction in the following subject areas:

A&M Consolidated High School (Math and Science)
A&M Consolidated Middle School (Math)
Cypress Grove Intermediate School (Math)
Pebble Creek Elementary School (Writing)
Rock Prairie Elementary School (Math and Writing)

The Austin-based NCEA evaluates schools differently than the Texas Education Agency by comparing the performance of campuses with schools of similar demographics, using the performance of continuously enrolled students for the past three school years.

Elementary campuses are rated on their Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) performance in Reading/English Language Arts, Math, Writing, Science and Social Studies and how those scores compare with their demographically-similar campus group.  The campuses that score higher than their peer campuses are designated as Higher Performing.

Upper elementary school, middle school and high school campuses are recognized for having higher than predicted growth in student performance based on NCEA’s predictive formula.  Since it is difficult for schools with high achievement to show a great deal of growth, the top five percent of Texas schools using NCEA’s College and Career Readiness (CCR) measure are also recognized as Higher Performing.
