CSISD FFA members rack up awards at Houston Livestock Show

Several A&M Consolidated High School FFA members recently competed in contests at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR), earning multiple awards.

Senior and AMCHS FFA Chapter President Brianna Hubbard won reserve grand champion percentage doe in the youth division.  Additionally, Hubbard showed multiple goats in multiple divisions, earning ribbons in each category.

Peyton McCleary successfully participated in the HLSR Calf Scramble and was awarded a $1,500 certificate from sponsors Carol and Jason Beal.  With this money, she will purchase a heifer and raise it to show in next year’s HLSR livestock show.

The nursery landscape team, consisting of Lindsay Knight, Hubbard, Tracy Biggs and Kristin Kasper, placed eighth out of 48 teams.  Kasper placed 10th individually in the event.

The floriculture team, consisting of Haley Fortenberry, Kayla Hanson and Paige Littlefield, placed 30th out of 80 teams.  Littlefield placed ninth individually.

Nicole Albrecht placed fourth in the youth division of the floral design contest with her arrangement based on a rodeo action picture.

Andrew Ramsey, Dustin Olexey and Stephen Zissimos placed seventh in the State FFA Tractor Technician Contest.  The team qualified in January and competed against the top 20 teams from across the state.  Individually, Olexey placed 14th, Ramsey placed 18th and Zissimos placed 20th.
