May CSISD Board Workshop/Meeting Recap

Note:  This is an overview of some of the agenda items on the June board workshop and meeting.  This recap does not include every item on the agendas.  Official meeting minutes will be made available on www.csisd.org following approval at the August board meeting.

COLLEGE STATION , Texas – The College Station ISD Board of Trustees met Tuesday, June 19.  The following discussions and actions are of note.

WORKSHOP

SB 1557 Application:  Passed in the last Texas legislative session, Senate Bill 1557 allowed the Texas Education Agency to form a Texas High-Performing Schools Consortium.  Once selected, this consortium will have the task of exploring methods for transforming public schools by improving student learning through the development of innovative learning standards and assessment and accountability systems.

CSISD is currently in the application process to be one of the up-to-20 districts selected to participate in the consortium.

2012-2013 Budget Discussion / Long Range Final Outlook:  Currently, the 2012-13 budget projects a planned deficit of $4,624,472.  The deficit will be made up by using a portion of the district’s fund balance, or savings account, which currently has a balance of $34,199,063.

The final budget for fiscal year 2012-13 will be acted upon by the board at the August regular meeting.

July 2012 Board Workshop and Meeting:  There will be no regular board workshop and meeting in July.  The board may have a special workshop to act on any necessary items.  If a special workshop is needed, the agenda will be posted at least 72 hours prior to the meeting time.
