CSISD students perform well on new state accountability system

“While we are pleased our students performed well on the state-mandated assessments, these scores are but one small factor in determining the success of our school district,” CSISD Superintendent Dr. Eddie Coulson said. “CSISD will continue to emphasize the importance of building knowledge and skills in our students so that they can be critical thinkers, problem solvers and responsible citizens.”

The 2013 state ratings are the first ratings to be given out since 2011. No ratings were issued in 2012 as Texas transitioned from the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests, to the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams.

Under the former accountability system districts and campuses were rated as exemplary, recognized, academically acceptable or academically unacceptable. For 2013, districts and campuses either “met standard” or “improvement required.”

The new STAAR accountability rankings are derived from four indices in the following areas:
  • Index 1: Student Achievement - the overall passing rate
  • Index 2: Student Progress - the improvement in student scores from one year to the next
  • Index 3: Closing Performance Gaps - performance improvement in the lower performing student groups
  • Index 4: Postsecondary Readiness - graduation rates and percentage of students graduating under the Recommended High School Program or Distinguished Achievement Program
Additionally, CSISD campuses earned a total of 28 distinctions in the new accountability system, including:
  • Reading/ELA (12 distinctions):  AMCHS, AMCMS, CSMS, Cypress Grove, Oakwood, College Hills, Creek View, Forest Ridge, Greens Prairie, Pebble Creek, Rock Prairie, Southwood Valley
  • Math (8 distinctions):  AMCHS, CSHS, AMCMS, Cypress Grove, Oakwood, College Hills, Forest Ridge, Rock Prairie
  • Student Progress (8 distinctions):  AMCHS, CSHS, AMCMS, Cypress Grove, Oakwood, College Hills, Forest Ridge, Rock Prairie
