After students and staff filed into the school gym, Friday afternoon, Principal Teresa Katt announced the good news. Students eagerly lined up to receive their ice cream sandwiches while dancing and cheering for Johnson.
“I’m just honored and so excited the kids can be a part of this,” Johnson exclaimed. “I just want to keep doing what’s best for kids.”
As the Region 6 Elementary Teacher of the Year, Johnson is now a finalist for the Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year.
In addition, Blue Bell Creameries presented Johnson with a cooler of her favorite Blue Bell flavors, Mint Chocolate Chip, Red Velvet Cake and Homemade Vanilla.
“At Blue Bell, we believe there is no finer work you can do in this world than be a teacher,” CEO and president of Blue Bell Creameries, Paul Kruse, said in a congratulatory letter. “The finalists for Texas Teacher of the Year are among the most outstanding members of their profession. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to honor Ms. Johnson for her wonderful work.”
