Consol sweeps district congressional debate

Venkatraj, Srinivasan, and Zhang advanced to the state contest in January in Austin to represent the 12 schools from region 6 which competed in the pilot event.  Choi is the region’s alternate.

Congressional Debate is a newly added UIL event, in which the students debate legislation, which they ultimately pass or fail.  Students debate the ideas of "other representatives" that they are competing against in the form of speeches.

Students also have the opportunity to run for "Speaker of the House" where they control the session and keep order.

The event was hosted at A&M Consolidated High School and AMCHS debate coach Roy Rodriguez served as the UIL District Congressional Clerk for the contest.
