The students qualified at the Region 4 meet held in Galveston and will compete at the state competition April 10-12 in Corpus Christi.
FCCLA contests include culinary competitions, STAR events, and family and consumer science assessments.
The CSHS culinary team of Jayme Holden, Kiahna Butterfield, and Alana Batista advanced to state by winning first place and more than $15,000 in scholarships from the Escoffier Culinary School.
Out of more than 30 teams in the culinary competition, the team of Kinsey Rhome, Sydney Cordero and Deja Robinson placed 10th, while the team of Kaitlyn Hunter, Daniel Schulien, and Mark Wallace placed 12th.
Additionally, Ashley Ramirez placed seventh, Cat Currens placed eighth, and Matt Rogers place ninth in the mystery basket competition.
STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation.

Family and consumer science assessments challenge a student’s knowledge of all aspects of family and consumer sciences: family career and community studies; early childhood and human development; food sciences, dietetics and nutrition; hospitality, tourism and recreation; fashion and housing design; and FCCLA knowledge.
