March CSISD Board Workshop/Meeting Recap
Note: This is an overview of some of the agenda items on the March board workshop and meeting. This recap does not include every item on the agendas. Official meeting minutes will be made available on www.csisd.org following approval at the April board meeting.
COLLEGE STATION , Texas – The College Station ISD Board of Trustees met Tuesday, March 18. The following discussions and actions are of note.
B-CS Convention and Visitors Bureau natatorium feasibility study: The Bryan-College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) has formed a task force to study the building and operating of a community natatorium. CSISD is represented on the task force with representatives from BISD, the cities of College Station and Bryan, Texas A&M Rec Services and others.
The Board was briefed by Dr. Clark Ealy, Deputy Superintendent for Administrative Services, regarding the work of the task force and the request for proposal (RFP) that was sent out for a feasibility study. Shannon Overby, Executive Director for the CVB was in attendance and answered questions as well.
Dr. Clark Ealy named Lone Finalist: CSISD Deputy Superintendent for Administrative Services, Dr. Clark Ealy, was named the Lone FInalist to replace Dr. Eddie Coulson, who is retiring on June 27. After a 21-day waiting period, the CSISD board can vote to name Ealy the Superintendent.
Adoption of Rezoning Parameters: After receiving input from three public forums, the board adopted the following parameters to guide the work of the rezoning committee:
Zone schools for comparable demographic composition of students
Zone schools for growth
Maintain at least three “title one” schools
The district is rezoning for the addition of a ninth elementary school, which will open in August 2015, at which time the new zones will go into effect. The ninth elementary school is part of the 2013 bond package, which was passed by CSISD voters.
Purchase of 1,500 desktop computers: The board approved the purchase of 1,500 desktop computers from Dell Marketing for the amount of $1,045,510 from 2013 bond funds. The 1,500 computers will be used to replace old computers at all 15 CSISD campuses.
Purchase of Edgenuity site license: The board approved the purchase of site licenses for the Edgenuity software for the amount of $94,500. This software has many instructional purposes, including unlimited high school course work for original credit, credit recovery, special education support, and preparatory coursework for STARR, EOC, SAT, ACT and college exams.
Guaranteed maximum price for five security vestibules: The board approved the guaranteed maximum price for adding security vestibules to the following schools:
A&M Consolidated Middle School
College Station Middle School
Cypress Grove Intermediate School
Pebble Creek Elementary School
Southwood Valley Elementary School
The planning amount for the two projects in the 2013 bond package is $1,772,407. The guaranteed maximum price from Joeris General Contractors obtained through a competitive-sealed-bid process is $1,398,325. The total project budget is $1,646,187, or $126,220 below the planning amount.
Upon completion this summer, all 15 CSISD campuses will have security vestibules.
