AMCHS teacher Bart Taylor has amazing, award-winning week

A group of H-E-B representatives and College Station ISD personnel funneled into Taylor's classroom Tuesday morning.  Speechless, Taylor walked forward to accept his balloons, cake, cash prize of $1,000, and – of course – take a picture with Buddy, the H-E-B mascot in front of his first period class.  A separate check in the amount of $1,000 was also awarded to A&M Consolidated HS.

The H-E-B Excellence in Education Award is one of the largest monetary awards programs for educators in the state of Texas as well as the nation. All finalists will be invited to compete against other educators for the chance to win greater cash prizes ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. Overall statewide winners will be announced in May.

This past weekend, Taylor was honored as the 2014 Texas SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year during the SkillsUSA Texas State Conference in Corpus Christi.  It is the highest recognition to SkillsUSA advisors at the state level.  Taylor’s nomination will be entered for the 2015 National Advisor of the Year award in December of this year.

Taylor current serves as the SkillsUSA Texas District 7 Director, a role which he has maintained for the last two years.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization acting as a partnership between students, teachers and industry to ensure America has a skilled workforce. The award is presented annually to secondary educators involved in technical, skilled, and service occupations who have achieved prominence at local, state or national levels.
