Shankar was recognized for her outstanding aptitude and interest in information technology, her leadership ability, her outstanding academic history, and her ambitions for post-secondary education.
Aspirations in Computing is a talent development pipeline initiative of the NCWIT. It is designed to increase women's meaningful participation in computing careers by providing encouragement, visibility, community, leadership opportunities, scholarships, and internships to high potential technically inclined young women.
Additionally, Shankar was surprised by being chosen as one of five students to win a Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA) award through the Energy Day Academic Program.
The NCWIT ceremony and luncheon was held at the University of Houston-Downtown campus.
