CSISD Citywide PTO annual food drive nets more than 96,000 pounds of food

The food drive helps stock the shelves of the Brazos Valley Food Bank for the summer.  

During the week of April 28, CSISD campuses collected 5,413 actual pounds of food and $18,241.72 in cash.  According to the Brazos Valley Food Bank, $1 is equivalent to five pounds of food.

A&M Consolidated Middle School collected the most pounds per student to win bragging rights and the traveling trophy for the year.  AMCMS collected the equivalent of 24,013.55 pounds of food - or roughly 28 pounds per student.

This year, the district more than doubled its cumulative pounds of food collected and average pounds of food collected per student.  In the last two years, CSISD campuses have collected more than the equivalent of 136,000 pounds of food.

2014 Totals:

  • Pounds of food collected:  5413

  • Cash collected:  $18,241.72

  • Cumulative pounds of food collected (food + cash at $1 = 5 lbs):  96,621.6

  • Enrollment at 14 participating campuses: 11,764

  • Pounds of food collected per student in district:  8.2
