Venkatraj outdueled 51 of the state’s best congressional debaters to earn the state championship. Debaters advance to state by finishing in the top three at UIL district and regional contests.
Congressional debate has only been an official UIL contest for the last two years, making Venkatraj the second-ever 5A state champion.
Venketraj earned first-place rankings from three of the five judges, including Thomas Ratliff, the Texas State Board of Education Vice-Chair.
AMCHS Debate Coach, Roy Rodriguez, was also awarded for his contributions as the district congressional debate clerk by the UIL.
