February CSISD Board Workshop/Meeting Recap
Note: This is an overview of some of the items on the February board workshop and meeting agendas. This recap does not include every item on the agendas. Official meeting minutes will be made available on www.csisd.org following approval at the March board meeting.
COLLEGE STATION , Texas – The College Station ISD Board of Trustees met Tuesday, February 17. The following discussions and actions are of note.
2015-16 Budget: Preliminary budget work for the 2015-16 fiscal year has begun. The budget and tax rate is adopted by the board during the August board meeting.
Joint Meeting with College Station City Council: The College Station ISD Board of Trustees will hold a joint meeting with the College Station City Council on Tuesday, February 24. The meeting will be held in the Assembly Room of the College Station Utilities Meeting/Training Facility, 1603 Graham Road, and will begin at 5 p.m.
College View High School Colors and Mascot Selection: The board approved the school mascot and colors for the new College View High School to be the “Timberwolves” and “baby blue, silver, and black,” respectively.
Planning for Growth Committee: The board approved a 35- member Planning for Growth Committee. The goal of the committee will be to look at district growth, financial capacities, student capacities at CSISD campuses, and other district capital needs. Ultimately, the committee will make a recommendation to the board regarding the scope and timeline of a potential bond. Members of the committee include two board members, five CSISD administrators, two CSISD teachers and 26 parents /community members.
Approval for Class Size Waiver at South Knoll Elementary: The board approved a class-size waiver for a fourth grade class at South Knoll. The Texas education code allows school districts to request class-size waivers when any class enrollment in grades kindergarten through fourth exceeds 22 students. It is the third class-size waiver approved by the board this year. In October, the board approved a class-size waiver for a kindergarten class at Southwood Valley and one for a kindergarten class at South Knoll.
Approved the purchase of 100 HP EliteBook 840 Laptop Computers from Avinext for $83,800 paid from 2013 bond funds.
Approved the purchase of playground equipment for Spring Creek Elementary for Total Recreation Products for the amount of $83,320.69 paid from 2013 bond funds.
Guaranteed Maximum Price for AMCHS Renovations: The board approved the guaranteed maximum price for renovations at A&M Consolidated High School. The renovations include adding a sports lobby to the competition gym area, a new dance facility for the Bengal Belles, renovations to most of the athletic facilities within the main high school building, replacement of the plastic sports court floor with a wood floor, carpet replacement and other smaller items.
This project is part of the $83.5 million bond approved by the voters in November 2013. The guaranteed maximum price from Joeris General Contractors obtained through a competitive-sealed-bid process is $4,033,959. The total project budget is $4,696,421.
