CSISD academic UIL teams win pair of state championships

In addition to the two team state championships, 11 individual students earned awards in their respective events.

For the third straight year, the AMCHS Current Issues and Events Team won the 5A state championship.  The team consisted of Benjamin Lamb, Eric Pillai, Rachel Lamb, and Annie Zhang.

Team members of the CSHS 5A state championship science team included Hongsen Qin, Jiatao Liang, William Chollett and Jason Tan.

The CSHS one-act play also competed at the state contest finishing as the fifth place team.

Several students placed individually in their respective events:

  • Raaghav Bageshwar, CSHS - 5th Place in Current Issues and Events
  • Seth Feagan, AMCHS - 4th Place in Prose Interpretation
  • Benjamin Lamb, AMCHS - 4th Place in Informative Speaking and 6th Place in Current Issues and Events
  • Jiatao Liang, CSHS - 4th Place in Science
  • Lisa Liu, CSHS - 5th Place in Headline Writing
  • Merusha Mukherjee, CSHS - 5th Place in Ready Writing
  • Marcus Neely, CSHS - One-Act Play All-Star Cast
  • Stephanie Palazzolo, AMCHS - 4th place in Feature Writing
  • Eric Pillai, AMCHS - 4th Place in Current Issues and Events
  • Courtney Sumlin, CSHS - One-Act Play Honorable Mention Cast
  • Jason Tan, CSHS - Science (Top Chemistry Score)

The AMCHS students who competed at state were coached by Roy Rodriguez (Current Issues, Speech and Debate) and Mike Williams (Journalism).  CSHS coaches of state participants include Greg Stanley (One-Act Play), Courtney Wellmann (Ready Writing and Headline Writing), Casey Akin (Science), and April Falco (Current Issues and Events).
