Bonasera and Cruz-Vespa were chosen for this prestigious honor through a competitive process held this year across the state at district, region, and area levels. More than 68,000 students enter the all-state competitive process and only 1,780 students are selected to perform in one of the 15 all-state ensembles (bands, orchestras, and choirs).
This is Bonasera’s second time to perform as a member of a TMEA All-State organization. He is the son of Aldo Bonasera and Margaret Church.
Cruz-Vespa, the daughter of Jorge Cruz-Reyes and Josephine Vespa, will be performing at state for the first time.
Bonasera and Cruz-Vespa play at school under the direction of Pieter DuPlooy.
The all-state band will perform at the TMEA State Clinic and Convention at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio February 8-11.
TMEA is an organization of more than 11,000 school music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education. TMEA comprises five divisions: Band, Orchestra, Vocal, Elementary and College. TMEA leaders carefully monitor the actions of all state decision-making bodies on issues affecting fine arts instruction.
