CSISD spelling bee contestants dominate regional meet

A&M Consolidated Middle School’s Claire Wang won the bee championship by successfully spelling the word “sucrose” in 38th round.

Wang will advance to the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee for the second year in a row.  The top two spellers at the Houston event on April 7 will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

In addition to Wang, eight other CSISD students placed in the top 15 out of a total of 44 contestants from schools in Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Robertson, Madison and Washington counties.

Students from CSISD who placed in the top 15 include:

  • 1st Place- Claire Wang, A&M Consolidated Middle
  • 4th Place - Samita (Sammy) Shankar, Oakwood Intermediate
  • 6th Place- Shresta Majeti, Forest Ridge Elementary
  • Tied 7th Place - Caleb Ege, Pecan Trail Intermediate
  • Tied 7th Place- Shifan Qian, Cypress Grove Intermediate
  • Tied 9th Place - Daena Co, Spring Creek Elementary
  • Tied 9th Place - Lydia Demlow, College Station Middle
  • Tied 12th Place - Jalen Hadley, College Hills Elementary
  • Tied 12th Place - Erin Parsons, Southwood Valley Elementary
