CSISD students win at regional science fair

College Station High School student Camille Chiu recently won the “Best of Fair” award at the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival and she and her project, "Mapping the Habitability of the Milky Way with Gaia and Stellar Kinematics," will advance to the International Science Fair and Engineering Festival.

Chiu’s project also took home first place in astronomy and physics, first place from the Society of Women’s Engineers and a Tyrex Group Award. 

Nine other CSISD students entered projects in the competition and the results are as follows:

Aditya Narayanan, CSHS: "Sensor Fusion for Attitude Estimation from Low Cost Sensors"

  • 1st Place Category Award in Hardware and Embedded Systems
  • Society of Women Engineers 2nd Place Award
  • Tyrex Group Award
  • Yale Science and Engineering Association Award

Kathleen Bellon Pizarro, AMCHS: "Testing Angiopoietin-2 dosage in a three-dimensional collagen matrix culture system"

  • 2nd Place Category Award in Biomedical and Health Sciences 

Vincent Musser, CSHS: "The Effects of Oxidative Stress on TDP-43"

  • 2nd Place Category Award in Cellular and Molecular Biology
  • Texas St. University Master of Arts in Technical Communication Science Writing 3rd Place Award 

Riya Pagilla, CSHS: "Electrospun Fibers for Production of Fibrous Scaffolds"

  • 2nd Place Category Award in Material Science

Lana Hightower, A&M Consolidated Middle School: "Planets too Massive for their Stars"

  • 3rd Place Category Award in Physics and Astronomy
  • Broadcom Masters SSP Award

Bill Wang, AMCHS: "Opacification: The Unexpected Interaction Between Chemistry and Mechanics in Silicone Elastomers"

  • 3rd Place Category Award in Engineering Mechanics

Danielle Payne, CSHS: "Rotary Jet Spun Polymer Fiber Production and Analysis for Skin Grafting”

  • 4th Place Category Award in Material Science

Sunshine Leeuwon, CSHS: “A Novel Data Processing Algorithm for Calculating Exact Mono Isotopic Mass Peaks of Proteins”
