ESL

English as a Second Language (ESL) is a program of choice for students whose primary language is not English. Students qualify for ESL based on results from and oral language proficiency and standardized achievement tests. ESL is offered on all of the campuses in CSISD.

ESL students at the elementary and intermediate campuses receive instruction in a regular classroom setting with a certified ESL teacher along side English speaking peers. Students needing extra language support receive additional instruction from the campus ESL Specialist in a small group setting.

ESL students in the middle schools receive instruction with an ESL certified teacher, who specializes in teaching both, social and academic English to students.

At the high school, immigrant students may take ESOL I and ESOL II in place of English I and II. ESL students who have received ESOL I and II credits receive content area instruction, along side English speaking peers from teachers who have been trained in sheltered instruction.

For more information about the ESL program, contact the ESL Specialist at your child's school.
