
College Station Middle School eighth-grader Gabriella Chiang correctly spelled “hypotenuse” in the 13th round of the Central Texas Spelling Bee to win first place and earn a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The national bee will be held at Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, near Washington D.C., May 28 trough June 3.
In addition, CSISD students comprised four of the top five spots in the bee.
Pecan Trail Intermediate sixth-grader Aarav Sargurunathan, was the runner-up, while CSMS seventh-grader Brighton Liu and Oakwood Intermediate fifth-grader Madeleine DeJesus Gendron were among a three-way tie for third place.
In all, CSISD was represented by a total of nine students including Adam Aburweis (Cypress Grove Intermediate), Sarah Larkin (Wellborn Middle), Zoya Rahman (Wellborn Middle), August Siegmund (Cypress Grove Intermediate), and Jack Zhou (A&M Consolidated Middle).
