School Closures
Delaying or canceling school is a complicated decision that affects students, staff and families. College Station ISD considers a variety of factors when considering canceling or delaying school
- The safety and well-being of students and staff.
- Severity of the weather (extreme cold, flooding, etc.)
- Timing of weather (overnight, weekend, etc.)
- The ability for buses and cars to travel safely
In the event of inclement weather, CSISD continually monitors the forecast from the National Weather Service, corresponds with local officials, and collaborates with various administrators in order to make the best decision for students, staff and families. Staff members work throughout the evening and early morning each severe weather day to ensure that buses will run at or near schedule and that students will be safe.
In the event that school is delayed or canceled due to severe weather, or other conditions, CSISD makes every attempt to notify families as soon as possible. While every weather event is different, CSISD will communicate with families and staff no later than 5:00 a.m. on the day of the weather event.
We notify families via:
- CSISD website (csisd.org);
- E-mail, phone and/or text message;
- Mass media, including TV and radio; and
- Social media
Parents can help by making sure their contact information, as well as emergency contact information, is regularly updated with their child's school.
Emergency Notifications
In the event of an emergency, CSISD will notify parents/guardians and staff via email, phone and/or text message. Emails and phone calls are sent using our mass notification system according to the contact information provided when your student is registered.
In order to receive text messages, you must indicate your willingness to receive text messages to your phone. The process is simple and takes only a few seconds to complete.
-
Step 1: Make sure that CSISD has your wireless number in our student information database. If you gave CSISD your wireless number in the registration process we have it. If not, please call your school and provide them with that information.
-
Step 2: Simply text "yes" to the number 67587.
-
Step 3: You will know you were successful, if you receive the following reply message, or a similar message: You are registered to receive aprox 3 msgs/mo. Txt STOP to quit, HELP for help.
Please note that we do not intend to send three messages per month, but only as emergency situations dictate. Federal regulations require that statement.
Please note, although CSISD does not charge you for this service, it does not pay for text message charges that may be incurred by you for sending or receiving text messages. Check with your wireless carrier for possible charges.
