Safety is at the center of every weather-related decision. When severe weather is forecasted or conditions develop overnight or early in the morning, our team closely monitors local forecasts, road conditions, and alerts from the National Weather Service and other emergency partners. Transportation teams and district leadership review the conditions and collaborate to determine whether buses and cars can safely travel and whether it’s appropriate to start school on time, delay, or cancel.

Depending on conditions, CSISD may:

• Delay the start of school (usually a 2-hour delay) so families and buses can travel more safely.
• Cancel school for the day if conditions present a risk to safe travel or operations.
• Release students early if weather develops during the day and it becomes safer for students to be at home than at school. Decisions are always made with student safety as our first priority.

Other weather-related impacts may include:

• Moving outdoor activities inside;
• Rescheduling after school events for a future date;
• Canceling all after school activities

We aim to make decisions about delays or cancellations the day before or early the morning of the affected day. Early notice helps families plan childcare, transportation, and work schedules. If conditions change rapidly during the day, we also may adjust dismissal plans to get students home safely.

CSISD will share weather-related schedule changes as soon as possible through multiple official channels, including:

• District website and CSISD social media platforms
• Automated parent communication (calls/texts/emails)
• Local media outlets (KBTX, WTAW, The Eagle, etc.)

In the event of a delay, bus pickup times shift two hours later than normal. If school is canceled, buses will not run. If there’s an early release, buses will run on an adjusted schedule depending on conditions. We share specific bus information when weather changes are announced through our transportation app, Stopfinder.

Yes. When school is delayed, canceled, or dismissed early due to weather, we typically cancel after-school activities, practices, and events for the safety of students, staff, and families. Principals, coaches, directors, and school-based program leaders will communicate specific information depending on the circumstance.
