CSISD College-Readiness Program & Exams

College Station ISD’s Advanced Academics and College & Career Readiness programs are designed to challenge students, expand their opportunities, and prepare them for success beyond high school.

Through Gifted and Talented services, Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Credit, and Credit-by-Exam options, students engage in rigorous coursework that builds critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. These experiences help students discover their interests and develop the confidence to take on new challenges.

Our College and Career Readiness initiatives support students as they plan for the future, offering guidance on academic pathways, college entrance exams, scholarship opportunities, and career exploration. Together, these programs empower students to graduate ready for college, career, and lifelong learning.

Encouraging Student Participation in College-Readiness Exams

College Station ISD encourages all students to take advantage of college-readiness assessments as part of planning for their futures. Exams such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and TSIA2 provide valuable feedback on academic skills, support college and career planning, and open doors to scholarship and postsecondary opportunities. By participating in these assessments, students build confidence, gain experience with college-level expectations, and better understand the pathways available to them after graduation. Our district is committed to providing resources, preparation, and guidance to help every student approach these tests with readiness and success in mind.

PSAT & National Merit Scholarship Program

The PSAT/NMSQT is an important milestone in the college and career readiness journey. This assessment provides valuable practice for the SAT while helping students identify academic strengths and areas for growth. In 11th grade, students who achieve top scores on the PSAT are eligible for recognition through the National Merit Scholarship Program, which may lead to academic honors and scholarship opportunities. College Station ISD encourages all students to take advantage of this assessment as part of preparing for future academic pathways.

SAT

The SAT is a nationally recognized college entrance exam designed to measure students’ readiness for college-level work. Many colleges and universities consider SAT scores as part of the admissions and scholarship process. The SAT assesses critical thinking, reading, writing, and mathematics skills aligned with college expectations. CSISD supports students through practice opportunities, preparation resources, and access to testing to help them pursue their postsecondary goals with confidence.

ACT

The ACT is another widely accepted college entrance exam used by colleges and universities nationwide. It measures proficiency in English, mathematics, reading, and science, with an optional writing section. Like the SAT, ACT scores may be used for college admissions, scholarship consideration, and placement decisions. Students are encouraged to explore both exams to determine which best aligns with their strengths and future plans.

TSIA2

The Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) helps determine students’ readiness for college coursework in English and mathematics. This assessment is required for most Texas college enrollment and may be used for dual credit eligibility. Strong TSIA2 scores can exempt students from developmental college courses, allowing them to begin directly in college-level classes. CSISD provides support and preparation opportunities to help students meet these readiness benchmarks and confidently transition to postsecondary pathways.
