50 Men Cooks

What do College Station Police Chief Scott McCollum, KAGS Weatherman Bob French and CSISD Superintendent Clark Ealy have in common?  They all served as Celebrity Chefs at the 12th annual 50 Men Who Can Cook on Friday, February 1 at the Brazos County Expo Complex.  Over $230,000 was raised from sponsorships along with the sale of tickets, silent auction items, mystery grab bags and raffle tickets to fund innovative teaching grants, student scholarships, book vouchers for young readers, the CSISD Senior Hall of Fame Banquet and Chrissy’s Closet.

This is CHI St. Joseph Health’s 2nd year as Top Chef Sponsor.  “Our local school system is an integral part of this amazing community and supporting them is an important investment for us,” said Theron Park, CEO at CHI St. Joseph Health. “Ensuring that our students and educators are equipped with the tools they need to be there very best is a top priority. We’re proud to support the CSISD Education Foundation.”

The Celebrity Chefs, who comprised 67 cooking booths, included Texas State Representative Kyle Kacal, College Station Fire Chief Jonathan McMahan, teachers/staff representing every CSISD campus, and array of community leaders, bankers, doctors and dentists.

This year’s 50 Men Who Can Cook Co-Chairs were CSISD Education Foundation Board Members Jody Ford and Jeff Horak.  “50 Men Who Can Cook is a wonderful event that brings together leaders from across our community to help raise funds for our teachers and students,” Ford said.  “We’re grateful for the many participants and volunteers who all come together to make this event a success.”

“We’re extra excited this year because the Education Foundation is celebrating its 20th Birthday,” said CSISD Education Foundation Executive Director Teresa Benden.  “We are so thankful for our Celebrity Chefs who cooked the food, sponsors who funded the event and volunteers who helped it run smoothly.  It is certainly a group effort and we are so grateful for our community’s support of our local public schools.”

Established in 1999, the College Station ISD Education Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) public corporation. Tax-deductible gifts made to the foundation provide funds for opportunities above and beyond the normal operating budget of the school district which are not available through tax revenues. Its mission is to seek funds and award those funds to students and teachers to bring innovation and excellence to the classroom and to provide opportunities not available through general funding.
