A pair of CSISD high school students recently won the national championship in their respective event at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif.

Will Wang, from A&M Consolidated, won his second straight national championship in Java Programming, while College Station’s Kelly Ding won the Legal Office Procedures national championship.

Other students who placed in the top 10 in their events include:

  • Ally Duan, AMCHS - Intermediate Word Processing 2nd place 
  • Justin Palazzolo, AMCHS - Extemporaneous Speech 2nd place 
  • Allen Li, CSHS - C++ Programming 4th Place
  • Hannah Sanchez-Owsik, AMCHS - Payroll Accounting 7th place 
  • Abigail Yao, AMCHS - Basic Office Systems & Procedures 7th place 
  • Ally Duan, Joseph Ha, Hayoung Lee, AMCHS - Visual Design Team 9th place

In addition to competing in events in which they advanced from state level contests, students had the opportunity to participate in leadership sessions, work as interns, serve as voting delegates, take open event contests, and earn industry certifications. 

Placed in Open Events: 

  • Will Wang, AMCHS - Computer Programming Concepts 2nd place, Information Technology Concepts 6th place

  • Ally Duan, AMCHS - Microsoft Office Specialist Word 2019 Associate, Microsoft Office Specialist Powerpoint 2019 Associate, YouScience Economics 
  • Joseph Ha, AMCHS - YouScience Health Science Fundamentals 
  • Hayoung Lee, AMCHS - YouScience Accounting I, YouScience Marketing, YouScience Customer Service 
  • Abigail Yao, AMCHS - Microsoft Office Specialist Word 2019 Associate 

Duan, Ha, Lee, Sanchez-Owsik, and Yao served as voting delegates and Caleb Farnell, Sanchez-Owsik, Wang, and Yao served as interns.

Amy Chae and Katerina McCaskill from AMCHS and Erina Tejani from CSHS were awarded the highest level of Torch Awards, the Ambassador Award, for service to their school and community

Advisors attending were Terri Casto and Dawson Deere from AMCHS and Chenika Brooks from CSHS, who became a certified Microsoft Office Specialist with Certiport.
