Students win at national BPA competition

A pair of business students from A&M Consolidated High School won the National Championship in their respective events recently at the 2022 National Business Professionals of America (BPA) Leadership Conference in Dallas.

Consol sophomore Gideon Ong won the national championship in Business Law & Ethics, while 
AMCHS junior Will Wang won in Java Programming.

Students must compete and advance through multiple levels of competition to qualify for nationals in contests which test the skills learned through business education courses.

In addition to the pair of national champions, several other students from College Station High School and Consol placed in the top 10 in their respective events and open events offered at the contest.

  • Forest Lu (AMCHS) - 4th Place, Economic Research Team
  • Areeba Momin (CSHS) - 3rd Place, Advanced Spreadsheet Applications
  • Gideon Ong (AMCHS) - 4th Place, Economic Research Team; 9th Place, Marketing & Human Resource Concepts
  • Erina Tejani (CSHS) - 8th Place, Fundamental Word Processing
  • Will Wang (AMCHS) - 5th Place, Information Technology Concepts; 7th Place - Computer Programming Concepts
  • Abigail Wilson (AMCHS) - 4th Place, Economic Research Team

Amy Chae and Rebecca Kumar attended the conference and fulfilled their required duties as Regional Presidents.

Additionally, Kumar was awarded the highest level of Torch Awards, the Ambassador Award, for service to her school and community. Kumar, Wang, and Kayley Sze were honored as Certified Student Members (completing a series of modules offered by BPA). 

Finally, Terri Casto was honored for her 15 years of service to BPA.

BPA advisors are Chenika Brooks, Casto, Dawson Deere, Kathy Fisher, and Dennis Rhodes.
