In addition to the many local committees and volunteer roles, I have also supported CSISD and public education across the state of Texas in a variety of ways over the years.
In 2024, I was honored to be selected for the Texas Association of School Boards Leadership program, Leadership TASB, graduating in June of 2025 as a Master Trustee. This year-long program brought together 34 school board trustees from across the state to become better board members by improving our governance skills, learning best practices from other districts, and advocating for our schools locally and statewide.
I have also served in numerous school board leadership roles, both for our local Region 6 in Huntsville and representing our district or region at the state level: Texas Legislative Advisory Council, Representative from Region 6 (2023 & 2025) Region 6, Superintendent of the Year Selection Committee Texas School Board Conference attendee (9 years) CSISD Delegate Representative at Texas Delegate Assembly (5 years)
In addition to the more official committees and activities in the previous question, I have also been a regular district volunteer, with two of my favorite ongoing contributions being in the Learning Lab at A&M Consolidated, as well as at Chrissy’s Closet, our student clothing pantry. And of course, I love supporting our students by attending as many district sporting, fine arts, and other events as I can.

Considering your background, skills, and talent, what positive contribution would you make as a member of the Board of Trustees?
Having served as a CSISD trustee for over nine years, I bring valuable experience and institutional knowledge to the Board. Public education in Texas is highly complex, with new laws and regulations introduced every legislative session. Over time, I have developed a strong understanding of school finance, taxation, accountability, curriculum and instruction, safety, and other critical areas that impact our students, educators, and schools. I am always looking to learn and grow as a trustee.
In addition to my board experience, I hold a Bachelors and Masters in Engineering, and currently work as a consultant and corporate trainer focused on efficiency analysis and business process improvement. This professional background equips me with an analytical and problem-solving mindset that I apply to the role. I pay close attention to systems and processes, always looking for ways to improve efficiency and outcomes.
Just as important, I am deeply passionate about and committed to serving as a board member. I am known as a trustee who does their homework, asks thoughtful questions, and challenges assumptions when necessary—all with the goal of achieving the best outcomes for our students. At the same time, I work hard to build consensus with my fellow trustees and to understand and respect their viewpoints, even when we do not agree.
Public service also runs deep in my family, as both of my parents served on school boards. Their example shaped my belief in the importance of giving back and working to strengthen our community through education.
What are the responsibilities of the Board of Trustees?
Public School Boards play an important role in your children’s education, yet many do not understand the duties of a board member. School Boards are the governing body for a school district, and as a trustee, I am entrusted with both the education of all the students attending our schools as well as the responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars to do the work.
The Board of Trustees sets the vision and goals for the district and adopts the district policies, budget, and tax rate needed to reach these goals. Boards should ensure good systems and processes are in place to do the work and that the funds are being used wisely in support of student success.
The board makes one direct hire, the Superintendent of the district, and then must hold him or her accountable; the superintendent is the only person in the district evaluated by the board, and this is an important responsibility. While the superintendent manages the day-to-day operations of the district, it is the board’s responsibility to authorize activities and programs, and then continue to monitor progress and results, asking the needed questions along the way.
The school board is ultimately accountable to the community, including the students, parents & guardians, teachers & staff, and all local taxpayers. Board members should be available to listen to and engage with all these stakeholders, fostering trust and ensuring transparency in all we do.
What role does the Board play in contributing to student success?
My motto is “Success for EACH Student, Support for ALL Teachers.” While student success depends on student, family, teacher, staff, and community involvement, the board sets the vision for success at the top. Student success should always be front of mind for a trustee as they approach board decisions. Whether through policies, personnel priorities, or budget allocations, my question is, “How does this decision impact students?”
To best serve our students, we must also take care of our teachers and staff, providing them with the tools and supportive environment they need to do their job well. As the board determines budget priorities, the focus should be on the students and the classroom first.
While student success starts with a strong academic foundation, it certainly means more. CSISD offers numerous co-curricular opportunities – career and technology programs, athletics, fine arts, and more – that help students develop both technical and teamwork skills, such as communication, perseverance, and relationships.
Trustees also contribute to student success beyond the boardroom as ambassadors and advocates for our district. Over the past two legislative sessions, I have worked to engage and inform our community about how state legislation impacts our schools and our students, presenting at groups such as Rotary and the local League of Women Voters. I have also taken that advocacy to Austin, meeting directly with legislators to speak up for our students.
As a trustee, I believe we must keep student success at the center of our work, supporting the educators that make that work possible, and advocating for the resources and policies that allow our CSISD students to thrive.
What are CSISD's strengths, and how would you continue to foster those strengths as a trustees?
CSISD is a great school district, and the heart of our district is our people. We have amazing teachers and staff who work hard every day for our students, and we must continue to support and retain these educators. Ideally, teachers should be excited to come to work! Having fought for funds for teacher raises for many years, I also recognize the importance of a safe, welcoming, collaborative, and supportive environment where our educators can thrive alongside our students.
We are also fortunate to live in a community that values education, stays engaged, and consistently supports our public schools. With Texas A&M in our backyard, we also benefit from intellectual collaboration and a valuable pool of newly educated teachers. Intentionally engaging our community and partnering with Texas A&M fosters these strengths.
Another strength of CSISD is the wide range of opportunities offered to our students. From excellent academics to numerous Career and Technology (CTE) programs, students can pursue their path to college or career readiness. There truly is something for each student at CSISD, and I will continue to advocate for both of these important paths for our students.
We are also proud to have 2 of the top high schools in Texas. Both are regularly competitive at the state and national level in academics and CTE programs, athletics, fine arts, and more. CSISD school boards and the community have been intentional to keep these schools balanced and comparable, ensuring students have outstanding opportunities and experiences at any campus they attend. As a trustee, I believe it is important to continue this effort so all students have an environment where they can achieve their best success.
What challenges does CSISD currently face, and what are the possible solutions to address those issues?
CSISD and other districts across Texas face many challenges today. Over the last decade, the Texas State Legislature has not been fully supportive of public schools. They have limited local control, added more layers or bureaucracy for teachers and districts, increased state testing requirements, all while limiting the funding going to our schools. Unfunded or underfunded mandates continue to be the norm, further stretching our budgets. Even with substantial education funding allocated in this session, we are still well behind the money needed just to keep up with the 2019 funding levels, prior to the surge in inflation. As a trustee, I have continued to advocate for our schools, communicating with our legislators locally and in Austin, as well as engaging our local community in the efforts.
Our district and community continue to experience demographic changes. After decades of steady growth, our enrollment has leveled off, with more of the student body shifting to the south with some campuses over-capacity and others having space. To address the capacity and comparability imbalance, we are currently adjusting boundaries for the elementary, intermediate, and middle school campuses. While this process is difficult for our board and the community, my goal is to continue to use all our school assets efficiently, as well as ensure a balanced student body across campuses.
Another ongoing challenge is the shortage of teachers across the state. The job has gotten more demanding over the years without the needed incentives and support for many to continue in the profession. Student behaviour and mental health issues are some of the contributors, and I believe having cell phones out of the classroom will help this to some degree. It is important that College Station ISD be a place where teachers are valued and want to work.
Safety and security of our students will and should always be front and center. We have a strong District Safety team as well as a long-standing partnership with the Brazos County Sheriff’s department. We must remain diligent with our processes and procedures, as well as maintain the latest safety technology.
With a strong school board and engaged community, we will continue to provide an amazing education to ALL our students, despite these challenges.
