COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The College Station ISD Board of Trustees met Tuesday, April 21.  The following discussions and actions are of note.

MEETING

Martindale named Superintendent of Schools:  Interim Superintendent Mike Martindale was officially named Superintendent of Schools in a unanimous vote by the Board of Trustees.  

Martindale became the Interim Superintendent on February 3 with the official departure of former Superintendent Dr. Clark Ealy, who left for the same position in Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD.

He was named Lone Finalist on February 25, and by state law, a finalist for the superintendent position must complete a 21-day waiting period before officially being named the superintendent of schools.

Discussion regarding 2020-2021 budget development process:  Superintendent Mike Martindale made an initial presentation regarding the development of the 2020-2021 budget.  

The board reviewed a draft of revenue and expenditure numbers.  These current numbers, based on the current school finance system, reflect an overall deficit budget of approximately $3.238 million.

CSISD will continue to review staffing and budget requests, monitor and adjust revenue projections according to results of the legislative session and update expenditure projections over the next four months.  The 2020-2021 budget and tax rate will be adopted at the August board meeting. 

Purchases/Bid Approvals:

  • Approved the purchase of furniture for A&M Consolidated Middle School remodeling project in the amount of $328,640.98 from Educator’s Depot using 2017 bond funds.
  • Approved the purchase of furniture for College Station Middle School remodeling project in the amount of $331,643.45 from Educator’s Depot using 2015 bond funds.
  • Approved the purchase of resurfacing for the Head Start playgrounds at College Hills, Creek View, and Southwood Valley Elementary Schools in the amount of $199,712.00 from Heartland Park and Recreation using Federal Head Start Funds.
  • Approved an engagement letter with Weaver and Tidwell, L.L.P. to conduct an annual audit for the fiscal year end August 31, 2020 for an estimated cost of $58,500 using the general fund.
  • Approved of purchase of gym floor replacement at Southwood Valley in the amount of $69,500.00 from Spaw Glass Construction using 2015 Bond Funds.
