In its very first meeting on Wednesday, March 27, 100 Women of BCS donated $15,100 to the CSISD Education Foundation.  The funds will be used to provide clothing and essentials through Chrissy’s Closet, as well as books through the Amy Anderson Literacy Legacy; both programs of the Education Foundation serve students in need.

The Foundation was one of eight organizations nominated by members and then was randomly selected along with the Brazos Children’s Museum and the BCS Spay Neuter Project as a potential recipient.  Members who nominated the charities gave a 5-minute presentation about the needs of the organization. Attending members then cast a ballot to vote for the charity of their choice. The charity with the most votes was the beneficiary for that meeting.

“This gift is a perfect match,” shared Teresa Benden, executive director of the Education Foundation, “These programs were named after strong women who were passionate about their community and children.”  She added, “We are honored to partner with 100 Women of BCS to make a huge impact on local students.  Together, we can ensure that children feel good about themselves and ready to learn.”

100 Women of BCS is a group of women who are passionate about the Bryan College Station community. The theme of the benevolent group is “1 hour, 100 women, $10,000 to charity”.  The group gathers three times a year for a one-hour long meeting, where members will hear from fellow members about three local charities and their specific and immediate needs. Present members vote to select one charity, then each member (present or non-present) writes a $100 check directly to the selected charity. The combined donation is intended to make a meaningful impact in our BCS community for a 501c3 organization or worthy cause. There are technically 151 members registered for the 2019 roster, so the combined gifts total $15,100.
